The resort developed rapidly after 1856, which was connected with the activity of Józef Dietl – a professor of the Jagiellonian University, known as the father of Polish balneology. This period saw the construction of facilities such as the Old Mineral Baths, the Spa House and the beautiful, wooden Main Pump Room with a promenade. Krynica’s most beautiful wooden houses, featuring elaborate wood carving, were built in the second half of the 19th century, as a result of a large influx of patients.
